Who are you running/walking for?
Melissa walks in memory of her uncle Paul, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2009:
“In 2010 we created our team for the first time and fittingly called ourselves “Paul’s Posse” and were comprised of family and friends... Last year we continued the tradition, but instead of walking in support of Uncle Paul, we were walking in his memory after he lost his battle to prostate cancer on March 20, 2011 at the far too young age of 55. As of last year we’ve grown to a team of 15, all walking in memory of Uncle Paul, and in support of every man battling this disease. We’re happy to raise money for the cause knowing that every penny we raise stays on Vancouver Island to support men and their families affected by this disease.”
“For Clive” team captain Sheila Redding runs for a man who is very dear to her and her family:
“Clive…is the father of my best friend and grandfather to my children’s friends. [He] was diagnosed just over a year ago and has been through many treatments and medical procedures. We’ve been there to see how this disease has affected not only him, but those around him. We (myself, husband, children and anyone else who wants to join us) are running in this event not only to show that we support and care about Clive, but to raise awareness so that another family may not have to experience what this family has been (and is still going) through. Early detection through regular examinations is crucial to preventing this disease, and if we can bring awareness to just one person, then doing this run makes it all worthwhile.”
